Role purpose
? To provide specialist technical expertise or broad formulation expertise into formulation development and/or technology projects.
? Influence project direction by providing expert knowledge.
? Increase the capabilities of Global Formulation through technical advocacy and innovation.
Accountabilities
? To provide scientific or practical expertise in a specialist technical area or provide broad product based expertise in order to support formulation projects or troubleshoot problems in collaboration with colleagues within Global Formulation, P&S and R&D.
? To influence the capabilities of Global Formulation in at least one scientific discipline and/or lead technical delivery of complex formulation design or novel technology projects.
? To generate and implement innovative ideas into assigned projects.
? To provide advice and training for colleagues in their area of technical expertise.
? To maintain awareness of the state of the art in specialist area or competitors’ capabilities and communicate them effectively internally.
? To challenge and influence the technical direction of projects within the global formulation community around their area of scientific expertise including presentations at internal scientific meetings. The job holder may publish patents and external papers.
? To help define and manage formulation projects within a portfolio. Agree project definition and targets with other functions, e.g. P&S, R&D and APM.
? Ensure skillful delivery of projects to meet stakeholders expectations.
? Compliance with internal policies and guidelines e.g. Health, Safety and Environment
Knowledge, experience & capabilities
Critical knowledge
? PhD or University degree in chemistry or a related field.
? Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
? Basic knowledge of project management.
? Strong working knowledge of formulation chemistry and physical science.
? Knowledge of the compromises that can be made when developing new products and the impact of formulation on wider project targets such as biology. tox, registration, etc.
Critical experience
? Experience in the application of formulation science and technology to solve AI and product related issues and challenges.
? Providing scientific expertise as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
? A successful track record of delivering projects.
? Experience in dealing with commercial functions and articulating project progress, risks, etc.
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
? Has the ability to understand Syngenta values and policies, in particular HSE.
? Would be able to be recognized within Global Formulation as an expert in at least one scientific discipline or formulation technology area in that they have experience, understanding or knowledge that is clearly greater than others in the function.
